PHP Energy Explained: Energy Monitoring for PHP

Every request your PHP application serves draws power on a server somewhere. The hosting bill and the meter show only the total. What your code does with that energy stays a black box: request by request, job by job, query by query. Install the agent with Composer, and it instruments your application as it runs, with no configuration.

For each request it tracks processor cycles, memory, and input and output, maps them to energy, and translates that into carbon. Energy regressions can be caught before they reach production. Add a carbon budget to your pipeline, and any build that goes over its threshold fails. It works with GitHub Actions, GitLab and Jenkins.

Then report. Energy becomes carbon dioxide equivalent, using real-time grid intensity for where and when your code ran, rather than a static average. Reports align with Scope two and Scope three of the GHG Protocol, and export as PDF or CSV. PHP Energy is in private beta.
